# Reaction video maker

Add the clip you’re reacting to, then your face-cam recording. You land in a round bubble with the clip turned down so your voice leads, and a split screen is one tap away.

To make a reaction video, film yourself watching with your phone’s front camera or a webcam app, then select **Add photos and videos** above and pick the clip you’re reacting to first and your recording second. The clip fills the frame, your face sits in a round **Bubble**, and the clip’s sound starts at 35% so your voice comes through. Select **Export** for one MP4.

collage.video doesn’t switch on your camera: it puts two finished recordings together on your own device, without uploading either of them. Prefer equal halves? Open the Layout tab and choose **Side by side** or **Two stacked** under Split screen; the [split screen video editor](https://collage.video/split-screen-video) covers those layouts, and [picture in picture](https://collage.video/picture-in-picture-video) explains the corner insets.

## How to make a reaction video

1. ### Record your reaction
Film yourself watching the clip with your phone’s front camera, the Camera app on Windows, or Photo Booth or QuickTime Player on a Mac. Wear headphones so the clip’s sound doesn’t leak into your microphone.
2. ### Add the clip, then yourself
Select Add photos and videos and pick the clip you’re reacting to first, then your recording. The clip fills the frame and you appear in the Bubble.
3. ### Line the two up
Tap your recording and drag Start until your first reaction meets the moment it responds to. Press Space to play both together, and comma or full stop to step a frame.
4. ### Balance the sound
The clip starts at 35% Volume so you can be heard over it. Tap either cell to change its Volume, or switch its sound off with M.
5. ### Pick the layout and export
Keep the Bubble, or try a corner inset or a split screen in the Layout tab. Then select Export and Export video.

## Bubble, corner or split: choosing a reaction layout

The layout decides what the viewer watches. A small face over a full-frame clip says “the clip is the show, I’m the commentary”. Equal halves say your reaction matters as much as the clip, which suits first listens, duets and two-person reactions.

* **Bubble:** a round face cam over the clip. The classic commentary look on YouTube.
* **Picture in picture:** a rectangle in the bottom-right corner that shows more of you and the room.
* **Inset at the top:** keeps your face clear of TikTok and Reels captions at the bottom of the screen.
* **Side by side:** two equal halves in 16:9, for reactions where your face is half the point.
* **Two stacked:** the clip on top and you underneath in 9:16, the usual shape on TikTok and Shorts.

Drag one cell onto the other to swap which clip is big, and drag inside the bubble to centre your face; Zoom crops tighter.

## Getting the sound right

Two soundtracks fight for attention, so the reaction set-up starts the clip at 35% and leaves your recording at full volume. For commentary over a loud music video, take the clip lower still; for a reaction to a song, raise it and let your voice drop in between lines.

### Why you can hear an echo

If you watched through speakers, your microphone recorded the clip as well. In the finished video it then plays twice, a fraction of a second apart. You can mute your recording’s sound if you only reacted with your face, but the real fix is headphones while you record.

## Vertical reactions for TikTok and Shorts

Choose **Story 9:16** before adding the clips. **Two stacked** puts the clip in the top half and you in the bottom half, each about 1080×960, which is close to the shape of a landscape clip. If you would rather keep the clip full height, use the Bubble or **Inset at the top**, and switch on Safe zones to keep your face clear of the app’s buttons.

TikTok’s Duet and Stitch only work with videos that are already on TikTok. Making the reaction here lets you pair any two recordings you have, then upload one finished file. The [reels and TikTok collage maker](https://collage.video/reel-collage) has more on vertical sizes.

## Reusing other people’s videos: the short version

Reacting to a video doesn’t give you the right to republish it. In the US, fair use can cover commentary and criticism; in the UK, fair dealing has exceptions for criticism, review and quotation. Both depend on how much you use and whether your commentary adds something of its own, and platforms run their own content matching, which can block or demonetise a reaction regardless. Use short sections, talk over them, and check the creator’s terms. This is general information, not legal advice.

## Reaction video FAQ

### How do I make a reaction video?

Record yourself watching, then add the clip and your recording here, the clip first. The clip fills the frame and you appear in a bubble. Line them up with Start, balance the Volume and export one MP4.

### Can this page record my webcam?

No. It combines recordings you already have. Use your phone’s camera, the Camera app on Windows, or Photo Booth or QuickTime Player on a Mac, then add the file here.

### How do I make a reaction video on my phone?

Open this page in Safari or Chrome on the phone, choose Story 9:16, and add the clip and your front-camera recording from your gallery. Use Two stacked for a vertical split, or keep the Bubble.

### How do I make a reaction video for YouTube?

Use Landscape 16:9 (1920×1080) with the Bubble or a corner inset, export at 30 or 60 fps, and upload the MP4 in YouTube Studio.

### Why is there an echo in my reaction video?

Your microphone picked up the clip from your speakers, so it plays twice, slightly out of step. Switch off your recording’s sound if you didn’t speak, or wear headphones next time.

### Is it free, and is there a watermark?

It is free, with no watermark and no account. Both videos stay on your device; nothing is uploaded.
