For a feed post, choose Tall post 3:4 (1080×1440) or Post 4:5 (1080×1350), add your photos and videos, and export. A photo-only collage saves as a JPG or PNG; once there is a clip in it, export a video and post it as a reel or a video post.
Instagram keeps photos 1080 pixels wide at their full resolution for shapes between 1.91:1 and 3:4, and its profile grid now shows tall rectangular previews, so a 3:4 collage fills the grid tile without a crop. 4:5 is still a safe, familiar choice.
How to make a collage for an Instagram post
Pick Tall post or Post
Tall post 3:4 fills the profile grid; Post 4:5 is the long-standing portrait size. Square 1:1 also works.
Add photos and videos
Select Add photos and videos. For a classic feed look, try a 2 × 2 grid, Big top, two below or Polaroid table.
Style it to your feed
In Style, set a background colour, gaps and rounded corners. Paper and Sand colours suit a calm, editorial grid.
Export the right type
Select Export. Choose Image for photo-only collages (2× size for extra sharpness) or Export video when there are clips.
Collage or carousel?
A carousel lets people swipe through photos and videos one at a time; a collage shows several at a glance in a single frame. Use a collage when the pictures belong together (a before and after, an outfit from four angles, a weekend in six moments) and a carousel when each one deserves the full screen. You can do both: make the collage the first slide of a carousel.
Post sizes at a glance

Does Instagram have a built-in collage for posts?
Not for feed posts. Instagram’s Layout grid lives in the Stories camera, and the separate Layout app was discontinued in 2024. Make the collage here and post it as one image or video.
Can an Instagram post collage include videos?
Yes. Mix clips with photos and select Export video; post the MP4 as a reel or video.
Should I save the collage as JPG or PNG?
