Use this layout: Seven tilesEach layout has a fixed number of cells, shown on its preview. If you select Add photos and videos without choosing one, the maker picks a layout that suits how many items you chose. Have more items than cells? The extras stay in the project and fill in when you switch to a layout with more cells. Have fewer? The empty cells wait for one more.
Tall formats suit stacks, the 2 × 3 grid, polaroids and film strips; Landscape suits Side by side, the 3 × 2 grid, Film reel and Polaroid row. Pick a format above the previews to redraw every layout at that size. A layout made for another format still works, and its preview says which format it was designed for (for example Best in 16:9). For posting tips, see the Instagram Story collage maker and the Instagram post collage maker.
Comparing two clips? Use a split screen or a labelled before and after. Talking over a clip or reacting to it? Picture in picture puts your face in a corner or a bubble. Recapping a trip or a year? A video grid or a mosaic fits many moments at once, and the film strip reads like a memory reel. All photos? Polaroids make a good photo collage, saved as a JPG or PNG if nothing moves.
A template is only a starting point. In the editor, Gaps between cells, Border around the edge and Rounded corners in the Style tab change the spacing, and the background can be a Colour, a Gradient or a Blur. Drag one cell onto another to swap them, and turn on Show one by one in the Timing tab to bring the cells in one at a time.
Cells, the formats each layout is designed for, and what it suits. Every layout can be used in any format.

The Magazine layouts start with a title (such as “The weekend” or “SUMMER”) and the Before and after layouts add Before and After labels. They are ordinary text layers: edit, move or delete them in the Text tab.
Choose Story 9:16, then a layout made for it. Two stacked, the 2 × 3 grid, Polaroid trio and Film strip are good starting points. The Safe zones button in the editor’s top bar shows where Instagram and TikTok put their own buttons, so faces and text stay clear.
